Trusty Friend came from one of those moments.

The Great Gray Owl is the largest owl in the world by length. That face — the one that looks like it’s judging you a little — is actually a precision sound system. Those concentric rings funnel noise toward ears sharp enough to pinpoint a mouse moving under two feet of snow, then drop on it silently from fifty feet up. In complete darkness. They call it the Phantom of the North, and it earned that name.

In the painting, he’s tucked against an old tree, half swallowed by dark, those yellow eyes the only thing giving him away. Not spooked. Not performing. Just there — patient, dialed in, completely unbothered by your presence.
