The devil would never show up looking like a monster.

If evil announced itself with horns, claws, and fire, nobody would fall for it. The truly dangerous things in life rarely arrive looking dangerous. They arrive charming, confident, well-dressed, and speaking exactly the words we want to hear.

Handsome Gentleman was inspired by that idea.

Standing before a blood-red backdrop, a sharply dressed man meets the viewer’s gaze while something far more sinister lingers in the shadows behind him. The figure is composed, successful, and undeniably charismatic. The devil at his back is none of those things. It doesn’t need to be. Its work is already done.

The painting explores the masks we wear and the stories we tell ourselves about temptation, power, and desire. Sometimes we recognize danger immediately. More often, we invite it in, shake its hand, and offer it a drink.
